Knud Larsen (b. Vinderød 1865, d. Frederiksberg 1922)
“Unge Piger ved Stranden”. Young girls on the beach. Signed and dated Knud Larsen 1911–12. Oil on canvas. 80×112 cm.
Exhibited: Presumably at Charlottenborg 1912 no. 331.
“Weilbachs Dansk Kunstnerleksikon”, 1996, vol. 5, p. 30 mentions Knud Larsen's sources of inspiration (in Danish): “In his Jutland landscapes one finds traces of both Hans Smidth's and Vilhelm Kyhn's colour scheme, while in the genre paintings like ”Sommer. Børnene binder Kranse“, he uses lighter colours and an almost impressionistic light that indicates the influence of P. S. Krøyer and Theodor Philipsen”. This is also valid for this painting, where Vilhelm Kyhn's and P. S. Krøyer's influence is obvious.π
