Sold by his widow in the 1940s. Mrs Alice Reyn, (née Lønberg) (1953), her estate auction, Bruun Rasmussen 517, 1988 no. 25.
Christen Købke was a Copenhagener born and bred, and he was very fond of painting his nearest neighbourhood. In his many landscape studies painted in the outskirts of Copenhagen, Købke creates a rather romantic setting with a delicate colour scheme - as in this fine painting.
