At this auction, we present four artworks with four very different expressions by the artist Anna Klindt Sørensen. The four different works illustrate the width that can be found within Ann Klindt Sørensen's artistic oeuvre, which is known for an expressive, vibrant, and spontaneous style of painting. Anna Klint Sørensen's education begins at Albertine Wesenberg's School for Porcelain Painters in 1919 in Copenhagen. Shortly after, she studies under Biggo Brandt in preparation for her enrolment at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1919. Here Anna Klindt Sørensen studies under Valdemar Irminger but decides to leave in protest after just three semesters. At this point, female students don’t have the opportunity to choose their professors – in contrast to what the male students were allowed to do at that time. Anna Klindt Sørensen is continuously active within – and speaks out about women's issues and women's rights, which her departure from the Academy of Arts also testifies to. In 1922, Anna Klindt Sørensen travels to vibrant and progressive Paris. Here she stays for the next 16 years and receives training at various painting schools under artists such as Fernand Léger, Marcel Gromaire, and André Lhote.

In the two portraits, made with crayon on paper and oil on canvas respectively, we see Anna Klindt Sørensen's more well-known expressive style of painting. Here the subject is not beautified – the proportions are distorted, and we see more rough brushstrokes and examination of the portrayed.

In this model study the woman's facial expression looks caricatured or almost tormented. An expression that can be found in several of Anna Klindt Sørensen's portraits. Her body is more coarse and more angular, and it is the model’s expressive appearance rather than the likeness to the subject that has been essential to depict for the artist. The work looks extremely modern – and almost contemporary in its expression, you can even argue that the work looks like something made as a part of the American “bad painting” movement from the 1970s.
