Walter Charles Horsley (b. London 1855, d. Willesley 1921)

A young elegant Egyptian woman leans out the window to look down on the street. Signed Walter Horsley. Oil on canvas. 62×52 cm.

Walter Charles Horsley was the son of the genre and history painter John Callcott Horsley (1817–1903). He made his debut in 1875 at the Royal Academy, where he exhibited regularly until 1911. He is known for his many Orientalist motifs, which he, unlike many contemporary Orientalists, had seen first hand - having travelled widely throughout India, North Africa and Turkey.
