“Old Fluted” — set of six Danish Royal silver dinner forks, profiled and curved edge, engraved with princely crowned FCC for Frederik Carl Christian as a private monogram for Crown Prince Frederik (VII) of Denmark (1808–1863), ruler from 1848. Maker Conrad Christian Frederik Schrøder, Copenhagen 1840; appointed Court Goldsmith in 1851. Weight 489 g. L. 20 cm. (6)

These forks must have been part of a larger cutlery service, executed privately for Crown Prince Frederik (VII) of Denmark. It may have been acquired by the Crown Prince in connection with his appointment in 1840 as Governor of Fyn Island, upon which he took up residence at Odense Castle. The cutlery service may subsequently have been transferred to Jægerspris Castle, which the King acquired privately in 1854. The same monogram as that on the six forks is found among various intrances to this castle.

Provenance: Danish private ownership and inherited from seller's grandparents without any further informaiton. Prior to this ownership, the forks may have been given as a gift from the King or his wife, Countess Danner, to a Dane. In the Countess's 1874 silver estate auction, several forks were disposed of, but no weight specification in the catalogue corresponds exactly to the one mentioned above.
