Original b/w press photograph of crater after test detonation of hydrogen bomb in the Nevada Desert in 1962. Back with agency stamp, glued newspaper notice dated April 11, 1965, glue residue and red label. Oak wood frame with double glazing. Visible size 23×18 cm. Frame size 33×27 cm.

The hydrogen bomb was invented by Hungarian-born physicist Edward Teller (1908–2003) and the first test explosion took place in the Marshall Islands on November 1, 1952. Even the early hydrogen bombs contained extreme destructive power - far greater than that of atomic bombs - as the present photograph illustrates.
