Portrait of Prince Hans of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1825–1911). Handcoloured photograph after an earlier photograph from around 1860. Unsigned. Oval. Visible size 18×14 cm.

The portrait has been owned by the portrayed himself, Prince Hans of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1825–1911). He was the son of Duke Wilhelm and Duchess Louise of Glücksburg, née Princess of Hesse-Kassel. The portrait is part of a uniform picture series of three generations with Prince Hans himself, his father and his maternal grandfather, Landgrave Carl of Hesse-Kassel. Prince Hans of Glücksborg was the brother of, among others, King Christian IX of Denmark, Duke Carl of Glücksburg, Duke Frederik of Glücksburg and Duchess Frederikke of Anhalt-Bernburg. Prince Hans lived for many years in an apartment in the Yellow Palace in Copenhagen. He was childless and when he died, his family at Glücksborg Castle were among the heirs.
