860/593

Hiberno-Norse coinage, c. 1065–1095, Penny, Dublin, Phase V, Facing bust / birds type, Roth, Pl. IX:212, S 6169, 0.94 g - unusually well-struck, nicely toned and of the utmost rarity and interest.

Although clearly inspired by the English Canopy type of William I (S 1252) the die-makers solution to the present issue is both highly original and typically Irish.
