Emil Hannover, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Constantin Hansen no. 141. The lying dog can be seen in Constantin Hansen's “Parti af Poseidon/Neptun-templet i Pæstum” (View of the Poseidon/Neptune temple in Paestum). The dog is lying next to a little boy playing the flute. That painting reproduced in Thorvaldsens Museum's exhibition catalogue, “Constantin Hansen”, 1991 p. 189.

Provenance: The estate auction of the late Constantin Hansen 1880 no. 1. Consul's wife mrs J. Schierbeck, Helsingør. Art dealer Martin Grosell's collection, his auctions, part III, Winkel & Magnussen 114, 1932 no. 42.
