Peter Louis-Jensen (b. Frederiksberg 1941, d. Copenhagen 1999)
Faxe-painting, c. 1965. Double signed at the reverse Peter Louis-Jensen. Mixed media and collage on perforated masonite board. 105×90 cm.
Exhibited: Part of a changing display on the tailboards of the Faxe Breweries’ beer and mineral water trucks that drove around Copenhagen and Zealand in August 1965. Provenance: Knud Pedersen, Kunstbiblioteket og Byens Billeder (The Art Library and The City's Image), Nikolajgade, Copenhagen.
Knud Petersen writes in his book from 1968 about the exhibition/happening, which Kunstbiblioteket in Nikolaj Kirke in 1965 organized together with the Faxe Breweries:
“On Zealand, Kunstbiblioteket arranged a special event, which was entirely in the spirit of what I wanted to work with. In agreement with the Faxe Breweries, which has 35 trucks driving around Zealand, 35 tailboards for the trucks were handed out to artists from many different groups, and they created images that were driven all over the island, from merchant store to merchant store. The tailboards were changed each week, so it all became an art exhibition with a very varied content, ranging from traditional landscapes to collages, where things were hung up on a zinc plate, so that they rattled and clamoured ever so dreadfully as the vehicle drove through Gisselfeldt, Vester Egede and past Fensmark’s church” (Knud Petersen: “Kampen mod borgermusikken” (The Fight Against Bourgeois Music), Copenhagen, 1968, p. 48).
Among the other participating artists were Arthur Köpcke, Per Kirkeby, Peter Bonnén, Tom Krøjer and Bjørn Nørgaard.
