'El Comandante'. Two original b/w press photographs of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro (1926–2016) during the 8th Congress of the Communist Party in Havana in August 1960 and during recording in a radio studio. Both 1959–1960. Backs stamped 'St.[udio] Naranjo Reina 317 - Telf. W-9000'. Oak wood frames with double glazing. Visible sizes 14×10 cm and 14×8 cm respectively. Frame sizes 23×18 cm and 25×18 cm respectively (2).
The photo studio 'Studio Naranjo' in Calzada de Reina 317 in Havana's Arroyo Naranjo district, to which the photograph's back stamp refers, was active around the time of the Cuban Revolution and specialized in photographs of guerrilla leaders, especially Castro, and his rebel movement, and later party, 'Movimiento 26 de julio', also known as 'M-26–7' ('26 July Movement').
Both with slightly yellowed front sides. One backside heavily yellowed and with remnants of mounting.
