“Typewriter”, 1973. Carved wood. Mounted in a perspex box. 28×36×41 cm.

Exhibited: Galerie Arnesen, Gothersgade, Copenhagen, December 1974 - January 1975. Exhibited: ”Americans”, Lunds Konsthal, Sweden, 5 February – 6 March, 1977. Provenance: Private collection, Sweden.

“A good old-fashioned typewriter made of wood – not everyone can cut it at this level. Fumio Yoshimura, a Japanese New Realist based in New York, works wonders with wood. At Galerie Arnesen in Gothersgade, Copenhagen, new and old bikes in 1:1 size, sunflowers, artichoke heads, and a saxophone are on display. It is almost the musical instrument that seems the most glaring. The things lose their identity, cut off from their function by being transferred to a beautiful material that renders them useless. It is all quite meaningless – and yet a new dimension is revealed. One is confronted with recognizable concepts in a new way”.

Coverage of the exhibition at Galerie Arnesen in “City Avisen”, Copenhagen, 12 December 1974.
