Princess Mathilde of Schaumburg-Lippe (b. Bückeburg 1818, d. Carlsruhe 1891)

Portrait of Princess Clotilde of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, née prinsesse af Hessen-Rothenburg (1787–1869), married to Prince Carl of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein (1788–1844). Inscribed “Clotilde, Fürstin zu Hohenlohe Bartenstein gebornen Prinzessin zu Hessen Rothenburg”. Signed and dated Mathilde 1840 Pz SL fecit. Watercolor on paper. Visible size 15×12.5 cm.

“Pz SL” in the signature is an abbreviation for “Prinzessin zu Schaumburg-Lippe”.

Princess Mathilde of Schaumburg-Lippe was the sister of Princess Adelheid of Schaumburg-Lippe (1821–1899), who in 1841 married Duke Friedrich of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1814–1885).

Examined in frame. The paper has turned slightly brown with some foxing.
