Study for the painting “Udbye Kirke og dens omegn”, commisioned by a group of Danish and Norwegian women as a present for N. F. S. Grundtvig on his 70th birthday. The painting is in the collection of The Museum of National History Frederiksborg Castle.
Provenance: Presumably the artist's estate sale, 27.-28. october 1903, no. 176 (”Landskab ved Udbye. P[en]”). Musuem director Karl Madsen (1855–1938); his estate sale, Winkel & Magnussen 237, 29. september 1938, no. 140; purchased here by the owner daughter, Sofie Wilhelmine Lofthus, nee Madsen (1887–1965); her daughter, Else Lofthus (1909–2005).
