Birgitte Levison (born Neumann) was a Danish painter and a student of, among others, Wilhelm Marstrand. Levison is primarily known for her genre paintings, but she also painted many portraits throughout her artistic career. Her earlier works are signed with her birth name “Birgitte Neumann,” but after marrying the master carpenter Herman Hertz Levison in 1864, her name and signature changed to Levison. She has exhibited at, among others, Charlottenborg and the Women's Exhibition, and is part of the collection at Statens Museum for Kunst with a self-portrait (Inventory No. KMS3171).
