“Metropolitan”. Armchair with beech frame. Sculptural back and seat of moulded, laminated teak. Designed 1952. This example manufactured 1950s by Fritz Hansen, stamped by maker. Retailed and marked with plaquette by Ferd. Lundquist, Gothenburg, Sweden.

The first version of the “Metropolitan” chair was presented at the Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition in 1949 by cabinetmaker Ludvig Pontoppidan. A simplified version of the chair was put into industrial production by Fritz Hansen from 1952 until approx. 1958. At the Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition in 1959, cabinetmaker Willy Beck presented a more luxurious version upholstered with leather.
