Carl Baagøe (b. Copenhagen 1829, d. Snekkersten 1902)

In 1856, Baagøe painted a similar motif from the village of Akureyri with the dimensions 79×115 cm. Sold at Bruun Rasmussen auction 627, 1996 no. 208 ill. p. 117. It was estimated DKK 75.000, but was sold for DKK 250.000.
Akureyri in Iceland is today a university town and is with its 18,925 inhabitants Iceland's fourth largest city after Reykjavík, Hafnarfjörður and Kópavogur.
