Original B&W silver gelatin press photograph of the Japanese attack on the American destroyer USS Shaw in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Presumably contemporary developing. Back stamped ‘STATES-ITEM’. Oak wood frame with double glazing. Visible size 19.5×24 cm. Frame size 29×34 cm.
The Japanese surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, marked the start of US participation in World War II (the formal US declaration of war against Japan followed on December 8) and thus also marked the end of the isolationist policy the country had practiced throughout the 1930s.
This is an original B&W silver gelatin press photograph, presumably from the early 1940s which has a slightly wavy surface. Furthermore normal signs of handling.
