Provenance: Present owner's grandmother's brother, Axel Wilhelm Hansen, later Heils, (1879–1949), chief librarian in the Danish Foreign Ministry. Before the Russian revolution 1917, he was stationed in Russia, from where he brought back the painting to Denmark.
