Automatic camera in the spacecraft Voyager 2: An original NASA colour offset photograph of Ariel, one of the five larger moons of Uranus. Exposure of January 24, 1986 at a distance of 170,000 kilometers. Back with describing text. Picture size 21.5×28 cm. Frame size 33×43 cm.
The unmanned spacecraft Voyager 2 was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida in the late summer of 1977 and nine years later it reached photo distance of Ariel. The present picture is a result of this long journey - roughly 3 billion kilometers from Earth. On that background the distance between Ariel and Uranus seems very modest, only 191,000 kilometers.
This is an original NASA colour offset photograph from 1986, which has a small damage in the right side (see image). Furthermore normal signs of handling.
