Riis Carstensen travelled to regions as diverse as the Danish West Indies, Greenland and Egypt and often focused on the sea and coastal landscapes in his paintings. In the period 1869–74 Riis Carstensen was in the Danish West Indies, and there are also known paintings, like this work, with motifs from here from the years after 1900.
A few minimal peelings and retouches at edge and in upper right corner a faint pressuremark with minimal peelings. In need of a light surface cleaning and a slight tightening.
