An original b/w gelatin silver press photograph of the Berlin Wall during its construction in August 1961. Undated, yet probably contemporary. Visible size 18.5×23.5 cm. Frame size 28×33 cm.
The Berlin Wall, erected by the GDR authorities in the summer of 1961, separated - and completely surrounded - the western part of the city from the eastern part until November 1989. Many people lost their lives trying to cross the border.
