The Danish artist Mie Olise Kjærgaard (b. 1974) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Kjærgaard works primarily with painting but occasionally with sculptural objects and installation art. Kjærgaard’s artistic practice is characterized by her interest and understanding of society as a construction, and furthermore the role of the woman as a construction. Kjærgaard’s works often links to feminism and art history, and Kjærgaard demonstrates a thorough understanding of her predecessor’s work. The titles in her paintings can be understood as a tribute to the female forerunners whose important work has continuously helped shape Kjærgaard’s artistic expression. Kjærgaard’s works of art are created through a combination of personal elements, art history, and reflections on female positions and perspectives.
The work is part of a charity auction to benefit “Børnetelefonen” (The Children's Phone) and “Børns Vilkår” (Children's Rights Denmark). The auction is initiated and curated by “Curated by Jens-Peter Brask”. The artists have generously donated their works. Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers do not charge fees or commission so the total proceeds will go undiminished to Børns Vilkår's important work.
