“Hanoverian Pattern” - a set of seven silver table spoons, all engraved with princely crown on the handle reverse. Maker Heinrich Wilhelm Kompff, Kassel 1797. Weight 583 g. L. 22.5 cm. (7)

Heinrich Wilhelm Kompff became purveyor to the Hessian Court in 1801 and chairman of the Gold- and Silver Society in Hessen 1815. He passed away in 1825.

The present silver cutlery must have been in the Glücksborg family for generations until the ownership of Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1863–1948). It seems obvious that it is an heirloom from Prince Albert's father's grandfather, Landgrave Carl of Hesse-Kassel (1744–1836), governor of Schleswig-Holstein and married to Landgravine Louise of Hesse-Kassel (1750–1831), née Princess of Denmark as daughter of King Fredeirk V. According to the Landgravine's will, her daughter, Duchess Louise of Glücksburg, was to inherit all the silver that belonged to the Landgrave couple.

Prince Albert of Glücksburg was son of Duke Friedrich and Duchess Adelheid of Glücksburg. Thus, he was a grandson of Duchess Louise of Glücksburg. In 1906, Prince Albert married Princess Ortrud, née Countess of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1879–1918). They became grandparents of the of siblings below.

Provenance: ”The Historical Collection of Four Princesses From the Cavalier House of Glücksburg Castle”. The cultural heritage after the sisters, Her Highness Princess Elisabeth of Ysenburg and Büdingen, née Princess of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1945–2024), Her Highness Princess Irene of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (b. 1946), Her Highness Princess Margaretha of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (b. 1948), and Her Highness Princess Sibylla Ursula of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (b. 1955).
