“Metropolitan”. Armchair with frame of wengé. Seat and back upholstered with patinated natural leather. Model 2842/L. Designed 1959. This example made approx. 2000 by cabinetmaker Niels Roth Andersen, stamped by maker.
The first version of the “Metropolitan” chair was shown at the Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition in 1949 by cabinetmaker Ludvig Pontoppidan. The chair was then produced in a simplified variation by Fritz Hansen from 1952 to approximately 1958. At the Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition in 1959, cabinetmaker Willy Beck presented a more luxurious variation upholstered with leather on armrests and seat.
