Anna Ancher's mother, Ane Hedvig Brøndum, was born in 1826 and died in 1916, the same year this painting is from. It is thus a stately 90-year-old woman we see in the painting.
Provenance: The estate of the late Helga Ancher, Bruun Rasmussen auction 193, 1966 no. 95.
