Rudolph Tegner (b. Copenhagen 1873, d. Esbønderup 1950)
“Gravmæle over kunstnerens mor” (Signe Elisabeth Tegner) (Sepulchral monument to the Artist's mother). Signed Rudolph Tegner Sverige 1899. Plaster. H. 226 cm.
Erected in bronze at Elsinore Cemetery. Stands in marble in Triest, Italy, in memory of one of architect Hummel's relatives. Carl Jacobsen had the monument erected in marble at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen, in memory of his wife. In plaster at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts.
Provenance: This is the plaster version for later casting in bronze. The previuos owner acquired it from an antiques shop in Copenhagen, who had it directly from the family of the artist. On that time it was in two parts, but have been mended by the previous restorer at the National Art Gallery, Copenhagen.
