Lilli Lundsteen received her artistic training as a student of Malthe Engelsted (1852–1930) and Frans Schwartz (1850–1917). She mainly painted still lifes with flowers and portraits – especially portraits of children. Lundsteen exhibited for many years at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition and she also participated in the Women Artists’ Retrospective Exhibition (Kvindelige Kunstneres Retrospektive Udstilling) in 1920, organized by The Danish Women’s Artists Association (Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund), of which Lundsteen was a member.
