Andreas Juuel (b. Copenhagen 1816, d. Frederiksberg 1868)

View to the Chapel of Skanderborg and Lillesø on a calm summer day. Unsigned. Oil on cardboard. 22×35 cm.

Literature: “Lillesø” is today used as the name for the lake located at Sølund and Slotsholmen in Skanderborg. According to sources, the lake has changed its name numerous times and has, among other things, been known as “Henningsø” – a name dating back to the 19th century. This designation is written on a label on the back of the present painting.

Exhibited: The painting was a part of the exhibition “Märchen eines Lebens - Mit Hans Christian Andersen durch das malerische Europa”, which took place at Altonaer Museum, Hamburg and Museumsberg Flensburg in 2005. The exhibition consisted of a collection of paintings, made by danish artists, all painted in the countries H.C. Andersen visited, and painted in that specific period of time.
