Poul Gernes (b. Frederiksberg 1925, d. Ängelholm 1996)
Untitled, c. 1974–75. Signed on the reverse. Lacquer paint on masonite. 89×89 cm.
The work is a preliminary work for the decoration of the folding doors in the foyer at Herlev Hospital. The hospital was inaugurated in 1976 and the folding doors were probably some of the last to be added to the decoration. The work is prompted and inspired by the paper-cutting technique that Gernes used to decorate these as well as other folding doors and other works. We thank Ulrikka Gernes and Klara Karoline's Foundation Founded by Aase & Poul Gernes for information about the work.
