A set of four klismos chairs of wallnut, each with curved backrests and outswept legs. These examples made c. 1840s. (4)

Literature: Mirjam Gelfer-Jørgensen: “Guldalderdrømmen - Dansk nyklassicistisk møbelkunst 1790–1850”, chair ill. fig. 264, p. 271.

The furniture design of Jørgen Roed is characterized by an exquisite quality in both execution and materials. Most of the furniture he designed was for his own home and not only furniture but also silverware and jewellery. At the auction of Juliane Abildgaard, Roed bought a pair of gilt chairs made by N.A. Abildgaard, which he supplemented with his own, made as exact copies of walnut like this set. Both chairs are reprecented in the Design Museum Denmark's collection.
