David Rubinger (b. Østrig 1924, d. 2017)

An unusually large signed b/w photograph of the Israeli defense minister, general, amateur archaeologist and politician Moshe Dayan (1915–1981) during the Yom Kippur War, also known as the October War (October 6–24, 1973). Photo size 40×50 cm*. Frame size 41×51 cm.

* A part of the photograph's white edge is hidden behind the passe-partout.

Moshe Dayan, born in the Degania Alef kibbutz near the Lake of Gennesaret - then a part of the Ottoman Empire, now Israel - belonged to a generation of outstanding Jewish leaders, who grew up during the British Mandate Period in Palestine (1920–1948) and whose indomitable spirits eventually made Israel possible.

Moshe Dayan joined the Jewish military force Haganah as early as in 1929, aged only 14, a commitment that later costed him an eye - hence the characteristic black eyepatch he would wear in public the rest of his life.
