Christian Thomsen (b. 1860, d. 1921)

A Danish Art Nouveau porcelain belt buckle decorated in colours and gold with butterflies, mounted in sterlingsilver. Royal Copenhagen and A. Michelsen, Copenhagen 1903. L. 10 cm.

Literature: Jacob Thage “Danske Smykker” (Danish Jewellery). 1990. Mentioned and similar illustrated p. 120, here mentioned: “The sculptor Christian Thomsen and the painter Bertha Nathanielsen both modeled around 1901 a number of unusual belt buckles for the factory (Royal Copenhagen). They were made of porcelain and mounted in gilt silver on A. Michelsen's smithy”.

Condition

One side with small glaze chip and very small glaze missings/bubbles in the glaze. The other with chip on the silver mounting why the porcelain is a bit loose in the mounting. Wear due to age and use.
