The Imperial Glass Factory, c. 1840-1850

A Russian cut crystal wine glass, cuppa with prism-cut sides, front adorned with a raised oval medallion with the enamelled mitre crowned A for Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich of Russia on a red velvet and ermine cloak, baluster faceted stem on a slightly raised scalloped base with a cut star in the bottom. The Imperial Glass Factory, St. Petersburg c. 1840–1850. H. 11 cm.

Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich was the future Tsar Alexander II of Russia (1818–1881). The present glass is part of a service, produced for him, when he was crown prince.
