The Hindenburg disaster occurred on May 6, 1937, when the German airship 'Hindenburg LZ 129' caught fire while preparing for landing in New Jersey on the American east coast. Fed with hydrogen, contained in the balloon, the flames quickly engulfed the vessel, killing 36 people. This tragedy marked the end of the airship era.
This is an original B&W silver gelatin press photograph from 1937 which has somewhat faded and yellowed and shows surface scratches as well as two creased corners. Furthermore normal signs of age and handling.
