The present painting relates to the larger painting with the title “Bedstefaders snaps” (Grandfather's schnapps), Bruun Rasmussen auction 876, 2017 no. 52. This painting is referred to in Kunst i Privat Eje, 1945, vol. lI, as a characteristic genre painting that (in Danish) “has often been reproduced, and which is rightly considered to be his most popular; the painting is beautifully and thoroughly crafted and cultivated in its colour.”

Condition

The canvas is relined and waxed. Numerous minimal crackles. Retouches. In need of a light surface cleaning. Minor scratch in lower left corner. Slightly heavily cleaned.
