To the left of Churchill is General, later Field Marshal, Harold Alexander (later Earl Alexander of Tunis; 1891–1969). Back with remains of attached news telegram. Oak wood frame with double glazing. Visible size 17×22 cm. Frame size 27×32 cm.

CHURCHILL THEME

The battle for Italy, which began with the Allied landings in Sicily on July 9, 1943, was met with extreme resistance from the German side, fully recognizing the fatal consequences of defeat. The most important and fierce battles were fought in Sicily, around Salerno, Monte Cassino and Monte Maggiore, culminating in the liberation of Rome by Allied troops on June 4, 1944.

Condition

This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1944, which appears with superficial small scratches and a few marks. Back slightly yellowed. In addition, common handling marks.
