CHURCHILL THEME
The battle for Italy, which began with the Allied landings in Sicily on July 9, 1943, was met with extreme resistance from the German side, fully recognizing the fatal consequences of defeat. The most important and fierce battles were fought in Sicily, around Salerno, Monte Cassino and Monte Maggiore, culminating in the liberation of Rome by Allied troops on June 4, 1944.
