Johann Heinrich Zahrt (, St. Petersburg 1757)

A large and rare Russian Rococo silver tureen and cover, of oval curved form, gilt interior, body with two scrolling handles, rocaille finial on a stylized oblong chamomile flower, domed lid, raised on four embossed and scrolling supports. Johann Heinrich Zahrt, assay scrapes, asayer Ivan Frolov, St. Petersburg town mark 1757. Weight c. 2,995 g. H. 27 cm. L. 37 cm. W. 25 cm.

Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.
