Dmitri Maximovich Schelaputin (, 17th century / Moscow 1898)

A Russian icon formed from fragments of the upper parts of a pair of “Royal doors”, depicting the Annunciation. The two upper parts from the 17th century were joined and framed in the 19th century with a silver ritza. Dmitri Maximovich Schelaputin, Moscow city mark 1898, 84 standard. Tempera på træ. 50×48 cm.

The Annunciation of the Lord is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation.
