A Japanese carved ivory figure depicting Kannon seated meditating on a lotus throne placed on the back of a turtle. Pierced mandorla. Signed. Meiji 1868–1912. Weight 690 gr. H. 26 cm. Wooden base included.

Provenance: Lise Hüttemeier, daughter of C.K. Hansen former CEO of the East Asiatic Company, who acquired the ivory figure from H.V. Jacobsen, also a former director of the East Asiatic Company, who was a well-known major collector of Chinese art during his stay in China in the early 20th century.

Condition

Several countries outside the EU (third countries) ban import of items containing materials from endangered species. This lot number might be covered by such provision and potential buyers are advised to familiarize themselves with these rules.
