Constantin Hansen (b. Rome 1804, d. Frederiksberg 1880)

En liggende neapolitansk dreng, der lytter til oplæsning af “Orlando Furioso”. Studie til “Scene på Molo'en ved Napoli”. 1838–1939. Statens Museum for Kunst inventarnr. 393. 23×35.

Condition

It's a study for a larger famous painting in the National Gallery in Copenhagen. You can easily see it's only a sketch: It's painted a little sketchy, the motive is sketchy, the canvas has been put together from two pieces that has been put on a larger canvas to frame the painting. There is a thin diagonal line where the two pices has been put together - but this only gives it an almost “modern” touch. Further more there are 4 tiny holes from nails in the the canvas. But anyway it's a very charming and decorative piece that almost looks quite “modern”, because it's so simple! Comes with a fine golden frame with ornaments.
