Unknown photographer: An original American black-and-white photograph of senator Robert “Bobby” Kennedy and Jim Whittaker about to climb Mount Kennedy in Yukon, Canada in March 1965. Back with date of publication (March 25th 1965) as well as Associated Press stamp. Photo size 21.5×18 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.
Mount Kennedy - named after the late president - was in 1965 the highest unclimbed mountain in North America. That year Robert Kennedy and Jim Whittaker - the first American to reach the top of Mount Everest - decided to reach the peak, where they planted the Kennedy banner, a copy of JFK's inauguration speech and one of the dead president's World War II medals.
This is an original black-and-white press photograph, which shows normal signs of age and handling.
