Literature: “Axel Salto - Stentøjsmesteren”, CLAY - Keramikmuseum Danmark, model ill. fig. 79, p. 170.

Mainly at the early stage of his ceramic career Axel Salto made various vases with relief deer motifs. The present floor vase is the biggest known model Salto made with deer motif. Apart from this vase, only one other example of this model is known to be made and it is in the collection of the Ny Carlsberg Foundation. During his time at Saxbo from 1931–1932, he and Saxbo-founder Natalie Krebs succeeded creating several important ceramic works where shape, motif and glaze all came together. As a rule, the ceramic works Axel Salto made at Saxbo, as it is the case with the present deer floor vase, carries only the SALTO-signature and are not marked with the characteristic Saxbo kiln-mark.
