George William Russell was an Irish writer, critic, poet, painter and an Irish nationalist with the pseudonym/monogram Æ (or AE or A. E.).
He wrote about mysticism among other things and was for many years a central figure in the group of theosophists in Dublin. He claimed to be a clairvoyant and able to view spiritual beings. His home in Dublin became a meeting place for people interested in the economic and artistic future of Ireland.
