In 1931, art dealer Ambroise Vollard suggested to Marc Chagall (1887–1985) that he undertook a series of illustrations of the Bible. Chagall agreed and began illustrating the Bible in 1931, and it became his lifelong passion.
1st ed. of one of the monumental special issues of VERVE. Illustrated with 24 original color lithographs by Chagall, printed by Mourlot, as well as many more plates in b/w printed by Draeger Bros.
