A large bronzed zink sculpture, depicting af sailor from the Danish Royal Yacht Dannebrog, standing and holding a ship's steering wheel, mounted with a barometer, at the bottom a plaquette with Danish text “In memory of the Navigation School 1943–44”, standing on a black-white variegated marble base. An identical sculpture, but of patinated and gilded bronze, is situated on the drawing room of the Danish National Museum's Victorian Home. It is described as being made by the Danish sculptor Nicolai Schmidt (1844–1910) and made by bronze caster Lauritz Rasmussen, Copenhagen. The barometer here is also from Cornelius Knudsen. The sculpture was acquired for the Victorian family home in 1893.
Minor wear due to age and use, including few marks and scratches plus few minimal chips on base. Observated worn bronzed around the barometer. We do not guarantee for the functionality.
