In 1935 Flemming Lassen entered the Annual Design Competition of the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild. This competition preceded the annual exhibition allowing some of the winning proposals to be made and shown there. His proposal was entitled “Furniture for a Bachelor's Pad” and included two of his most iconic models: The “Hussar” presented here and the “Tired Man”. It was, however, only the “Hussar” easy chair that was made and shown in the booth of cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen in 1935. In this way it was a forerunner for the overstuffed, sculptured easy chairs that would be presented in the following years by designers such as Finn Juhl, Kindt-Larsen and others.
