A Historicism silver lidded pitcher with dish, the former gilt interior, of conical and oval shape, richly cast with folk scenes, stylized flowers and foliage, both engraved in Danish “den 9de August 1872”. Apparently unmarked. Presumably Germany. Second half-19th century. Weight 1,640 g. H. 21 cm. L. 32 cm. (4)

Provenance: Silver wedding gift from Countess Louise Danner, widow of King Frederick VII of Denmark, to architect and royal palace administrator Theodor Zeltner (1822–1904) and wife, Louise Zeltner, née Rudolphi (1819–1887). This is documented by the attached and handwritten letter in Danish from the Countess, dated Copenhagen 30 August 1873.

The Countess' letter and envelope are in an older envelope marked The Danish Museum of Fine Arts.

As an architect, Theodor Zeltner contributed to the restoration of Frederiksborg Palace and designed Frederik VII's Foundation in Copenhagen (today the Danner House), which was founded by Countess Danner. King Frederik VII employed Theodor Zeltner as a palace manager at Christiansborg Palace in 1854.
