A Japanese ivory, silver-mounted and inlaid Shibayama jar and cover, elaborate mother of pearl and wood inlay in shape of birds at blooming cherry tree branches and flower basket, the base, shoulder and lid with polychrome enamel flower sprays, the finial shaped as a seated kirin. Signed Zheng Zhi Ke? Meiji era. 1868–1912. H. 25 cm.
More parts of the inlay missing. A few piece of loose mother of pearl enclosed. Minor crack in the ivory and chip along the rim. Metal liner. Wear due to age and use. Slightly wobbly. Examined with mountings, without guarantee for hidden defects.
