“Bistået af Klio vækker arveprins Frederik den sovende Fama”. The Prince Royal Frederik awakens the sleeping Fama with the help of Clio. Preparatory work. C. 1783. Signed N. Abildgaard. Oil on canvas. 38×30 cm.

The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød owns the final painting with the measurements 115×93 cm from 1783.

Provenance: Mr Thomsen. Mrs head of department Sophus Sørensen, Helsingør.

Clio, the mythical Muse of History holding her attributes, the scroll and the torch, helping the Prince Royal to create “Mindelunden” (The Memorial Grove) in Jægerspris. One of the memory pillars is seen in the background.
